When here will return the sea
ANNO: 2024
STRUMENTI: p5, Procreate
This project explores the pressing issue of coastal erosion in the Po Delta in Italy through an eight-part visual narrative depicting the progressive loss of land due to rising sea levels. The story follows the fictional life cycle of a beach, illustrating the gradual invasion of the sea over decades.
concept
Po Delta
Coastal erosion is one of the most urgent environmental challenges in the Po Delta and in many Italian coasts. This phenomenon is the result of a combination of natural and anthropogenic factors. The main causes are the reduction in the supply of river sediments, the rising of sea levels and the subsidence of coast to the plains, which make already vulnerable areas even more exposed.
This project does not set itself the arduous goal of solving this problem but would like to contribute to raising awareness on the issue. By focusing on this theme, I want to make people understand the fragility of the land where I grew up and make them reflect on the devastating loss that its disappearance would entail.

project
The representation
The representation I chose is based on a timeline that guides the observer into the future, accompanying him on a journey where the sea slowly and inexorably erodes the land. I chose this representation with the intention of making people feel a sense of impotence in order to trigger a will to react. For this reason I chose to include as little text as possible, to let the images speak for themselves and I accompanied everything not with music but, rather, with the sound of the sea.

project
Illustrations
Starting from the Storyboard I created a mother scene that would act as a guide and then the individual illustrations. I paid particular attention to the expansion of the sea and the uniqueness of each individual scene.
