LAYER.01 is a modular and recyclable shoe designed to meet two main goals: facilitate the replacement of worn components and promote a sustainable approach to production and consumption. Composed of six easily detachable pieces, it eliminates the need to replace the entire pair of shoes if a single component wears out.
The goal is to increase the shoe's lifespan and reduce its environmental impact, while maintaining a lightweight design and a great user experience.
initial tests
Interlocks
Cutting and reassembling existing shoes helped us study the ergonomics and feasibility of actual replacement operations, thus helping us define the elements and joints necessary to create the shoe.

intermediate phase
3d model
Once all the elements were defined, detailed sketches were created and, finally, the shoe was modelled in 3D using Rhinocheros.

production
final prototype
The prototype was created by 3D printing the plastic components using TPU filament, and sewing the laces and the inside of the shoe.
